Alvin L. LaChance Sr.

Feb. 8, 1931 – Oct. 1, 2016

Tribal Elder Alvin L. LaChance Sr., 85, of Redmond, Ore., walked on on Oct. 1, 2016, with his wife, Barbara, at his side.

Alvin was the son of Stella Hudson LaChance and Ralph Clarence LaChance and was born in Grand Ronde.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Redmond; his sister, Elinore Andres of Eugene, Ore.; his son, Alvin L. LaChance Jr. of Redmond, Ore.; his daughter, Nan McLaughlin of St. Helens, Ore.; stepdaughters, Katherine L. Diener and Deborah M. Posso of Redmond, Ore. He also is survived by five granddaughters, four grandsons, five nieces, seven nephews, 10 grandnieces and seven grandnephews.

Al served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1952 and lived in Amity, Ore., after his honorable discharge. He left Oregon and did not return until 1973 when he moved to Eugene. From 1976 until 2016, he lived in central Oregon.

Al was good at several things, but finally settled on being a building contractor while in central Oregon with many clients that ended up as close friends. He loved hunting and fishing with family and friends.

In 1998, he became involved in the building and flying of RC Airplanes. He found a great deal of joy in flying with his friends at the RC airfield. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service was held on Oct. 8, 2016, at the Elders Activity Center with Pastor Lance Simonds officiating.
