Carroll Eugene Palmer Jr.

Grand Ronde Tribal member “Sonny” Carroll Eugene Palmer Jr., 48, passed away on Oct. 21, 2015, in Yakima, Wash. He was born on May 17, 1967, in Toppenish, Wash., to Carroll and Sandi (Sanchey) Palmer Sr.

Sonny graduated from White Swan High School with the Class of 1985. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University California at Santa Barbara and a second bachelor’s degree in Chemical Dependency from Oregon State University.

While at UCSB, he won Division One All-American Volleyball as a setter. Sonny spent his life as a volleyball coach. He will be remembered for how he could communicate and lead a young athlete into becoming the best they could be.

He is survived by his loving family: spouse, Justin Young; son, Jadyn Joseph Palmer-Young; parents, Carroll and Sandra Palmer; brothers, Calvin and Chris Palmer; sister, Stacy (David) Hill; grandmother auntie, Ada Brisbois; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Mabel Palmer, George and Matilda Sanchey, and Melvin and Hazel Guardipee.

A Rosary service was held Friday, Oct. 23, at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, Wash. Funeral services were held at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 24.
