Elders Activity Center designated as smoke shelter site

08.22.2015 Dean Rhodes Health & Wellness, Public Safety

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde has designated the Elders Activity Center, 48940 Blacktail Drive, as its emergency shelter for Tribal members needing a place to stay because of the smoke from eastern Oregon fires that has inundated the West Valley.

The Elders Activity Center opened at 1 p.m. Saturday and will remain open through Monday morning.
Tribal members who need a place to spend the night can go to the Activity Center, where a cot will be provided. People should bring their own blankets, pillows, hygiene items, etc.

The shelter is open for those who feel their current residence is too smoky and is adversely affecting their health.
