"Making a Tillamook-style Canoe Paddle" will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 9-11, in the Grand Ronde Carving Shed at the entrance to the Tribal powwow grounds off Hebo Road. Participants will learn the basics of canoe paddle making, including basic hand tool use, finishes and paddle dynamics. A limited number of people will be able to sign up to make a canoe paddle due to space and equipment limitations. Participants will use both hand and power tools and must commit to all three days. The class will be taught by Shirod Younker (Coquille/Coos), who works at the Oregon College of Art and Craft, managing the Journeys in Creativity program. To sign up for the class, contact Flicka Lucero at 503-879-2268.
