After 16 consecutive years of serving on Tribal Council, Reyn Leno is now Tribal chairman.

Leno, who has served many years as vice chair, was elected 5-4 as Tribal chair during the Sept. 12 Tribal Council meeting.

Leno voted for himself and was supported by Toby McClary, Jack Giffen Jr., Steve Bobb Sr. and June Sherer to become the official leader of the Tribe.

Longtime Tribal Chairwoman Cheryle A. Kennedy, who served 10 years as Tribal chair, received four votes. She voted for herself and was supported by Kathleen Tom, Chris Mercier and newly-elected Jon A. George.

"I want to thank the council for electing me," Leno said after the vote. "I want to acknowledge Cheryle Kennedy's years as chair. I will do the best job I can do."

Kennedy and Giffen were then nominated for vice chair. Giffen won the vote 5-4.

George and McClary were nominated for secretary with McClary winning the post in a 6-3 vote.
