Tribal member walks on after being involved in Newport-area crash

Grand Ronde Tribal member John Wesley Runningbird, 36, walked on Wednesday, May 29, from injuries sustained in a car crash south of Newport on Highway 101.

Oregon State Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 seven miles south of Newport at about 8:18 p.m. An investigation found the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet HHR, Faith Goodman, 49, of Willamina, had veered off the road and struck a tree while traveling north on Highway 101 near milepost 148.

Runningbird was a passenger in the car. He lived in Grand Ronde.

The family will be holding a wake beginning Friday evening through Sunday, June 2, at achaf-hammi, the Tribal plankhouse off Hebo Road.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in the Tribal gym with a meal to follow at the Tribal Community Center.
