Tribal Elder Scott Joseph Lane, 56, walked on unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016. He was the grandson of Esther LaBonte and son of Betsy Schaefer.

Scott was a U.S. Navy veteran and lived in Silver Lake, Ore., at the time of his passing. He was preceded in death by his grandmother; mother; father, Edgar Hiney; and brother, Floyd Daniels.

He is survived by his daughters, Tanya Lane of Portland and Mindy Lane of Salem; his siblings, Cappi Foster of Silver Lake, Timothy Lane of Sitka, Alaska, John Young of Roseburg, Sonya Connelly and Betsy Stone of Grand Ronde and Helen Tobiska of Rathdrum, Idaho; his adoptive parents, Arthur and Ruth Lane of Christmas Valley, Ore.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being taken care of by Baird Funeral Home of La Pine, Ore. A service will be held in La Pine and the family is planning a celebration of life and burial in Grand Ronde in the spring.
