Susie Edna Mason

June 19, 1927 – Dec. 15, 2014

Tribal Elder Susie Edna Mason, the great-granddaughter of Clackamas Chief John Wachino, was born June 19, 1927, in Grand Ronde, Ore., the daughter of Jess and Florence Josephine (Waucheno) McKinney. She walked on on Dec. 15, 2014, at the age of 87.

 

Susie worked in housekeeping, laundry and dietary departments at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, for more than 33 years. She then worked for Elwood Care Center in Onawa for more than 20 years as a certified nursing assistant.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother who cared so much for her family. She deeply enjoyed spending time with all of her family.

Survivors include her children, Beverly (Keith) Wensel of Mystic Lake, Iowa, Tommy Charley of Washington state, Edna Charley of Portland, Ore., Robert (Diane) Mason of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Penny (Randy) Weber of Danbury, Iowa, Tina Mason of Wahoo, Neb., and Perry (Helen) Mason of Grantsburg, Wis.; grandchildren, Bobbie (Lenley) Schofield of Onawa, Iowa; Crystal (Michael) Lien, Tina (Matt) Brown, Samantha (Pat) Hook and Tony Mason, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Perry Jr. (Amber) Mason, Salena Mason, Preston Mason, Princeton Mason and Fateena Mason, all of Grantsburg, Wis.;  and Tommy Charley Jr., Tanell Charley and Shawna Charley, all of Washington state; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Josephine McKinney; sister, Ivy McKinney; two brothers, Johnny and Bill McKinney; and a son, Douglas Charley.
