Tribal member Hattie Mae Emmilee Craig passed away at Oregon Health & Science University’s Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.

She was born Dec. 3, 2018, at Willamette Valley Hospital in McMinnville, Ore., the daughter of Grand Ronde Tribal member Stephanie (Wood) Craig and Umatilla Tribal member Fermore Joseph “Joe” Craig Jr.

She is survived by her parents; twin brother, William Cooper Joseph Craig; sister, Tayler Craig of Tutuilla Flats, Ore.; grandparents, Terri and Monte Wood of Dayton, Ore., and Fermore J. Craig Sr. of Thornhollow, Ore., on the Umatilla Indian Reservation; uncles, David Wood of McMinnville, Kenney Billy of Mission, Ore., and Robert Craig of Adams, Ore.; aunts, Tina Brown of Tutuilla Flats, Debbie Penney and Sandy Craig of Adams, Mary Kenoras of La Grande, Ore., and Beverly Murr and Tara McKay of Mission, Ore.; as well as numerous great-aunties and great-uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her uncles, Christopher Lee Wood of Dayton and Joseph Billy of Mission, and grandmother, Priscilla M. Craig of Adams.

Services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 12, with a dressing of the body and Washut services held from 7 p.m. to midnight at her grandfather’s residence in Thornhollow on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. A sunrise burial was held on Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Confederated Tribes of Umatilla Indian Reservation Agency Cemetery.

A noon meal and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Grand Ronde Tribal Community Center, 9615 Grand Ronde Road.

Both Hattie and William were born at 26 weeks and one day. William will be at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital for the next three months until he is healthy enough to come home. Hattie passed away from complications.
